True North: Discovering Your Authentic Leadership

2 to 3 Day Program Presented by Nick Craig and Tim Dorman with special guest Bill George

True North Leadership:  When you tap into your unique expression of leadership, and when you are leading from your “True North” then profound, transformative leadership is the result. Imagine what would happen if you totally understood and were fully operating from your genius as a leader?

Unlike other leadership programs that teach you the latest leadership model, we will help you uncover the untapped model that already lives within you.

There are many leadership models out there that are credibly published in thousands of articles and popular books. Most offer a cure-all prescription of skills, competencies, strengths or intelligences. Yet few work to uncover the buried wisdom and defining stories of the person seeking greater leadership impact. This insufficiency has led to over 2600 CEOs being fired in the U.S during the last two years. Thus, most current models of leadership development clearly do not suffice.

Become a True North Leader

True North leaders are creative, trustworthy, and focused on discovering innovative strategies to meet company goals. In this course, we offer an opportunity for participants to take responsibility for their own authentic leadership, using tools, exercises, and experiential learning.

The True North course provides practical, accessible, field-tested strategies to tap into and develop your authentic leadership. These strategies are documented in “Discover Your Authentic Leadership,” in the February 2007 issue of the Harvard Business Review, the Wall Street Journal and BusinessWeek articles, and in the bestselling True North (Jossey-Bass: March 2007). The course is based on the Authentic Leadership MBA Program at Harvard Business School and the soon to be released True North Field Book.

Learn how some of today's most successful leaders have styles that flow naturally from their own unique life experiences.

The course is a three-day experience. It includes two follow-up experiential web seminars, as well as group work and individual reflection. In the course you will:

  • Identify Your Story:  Through your own crucible stories, you will find who you are as an authentic leader (your True North).
  • Live Your True North:  Find your own guiding principles, and see how to express values, principles, and ethical boundaries in a deeply powerful way on a daily basis.
  • Empower Others to find Their True North:  Discover how, through accessing your authenticity as a leader, you can support those around you to do the same.

Ultimately, the True North course shows participants how to tap into their own powerful, inner resources and become expert practitioners in their own leadership development.

  • Dialoguing with other leaders on their journey as an Authentic Leader
  • Examining  the concept of crucible stories
  • Discovering the story behind your authentic leadership

Live Your True North:

We have found that for each of us there is an authentic, unique, and exquisite expression of leadership; our “True North” as a leader.  In this course, we learn how to create the conditions that enable us to find the full expression of our True North through:

  • Uncovering what really motivates you and which situations are perfectly designed to maximize your unique style of authentic leadership
  • Identifying the core values and principles in your leadership far beyond the values listed on most company walls
  • Learning a new approach to integrating your life and building a personal support team that encompasses people not just from your professional life, but family and friends as well.

Empower Others to Find Their True North:

It is one thing to talk about being an Authentic Leader; it is another to actually take action on a plan to develop ourselves and others as authentic leaders. When we see others finding their True North, it helps us to see ours. You will build an action plan for your authentic leadership development for both you and your organization through:

  • Identifying your purpose as an authentic leader in the context of the business challenges that cross your desk on a daily basis.
  • Creating a leadership development plan with specific action steps to intergrate what you have learned.
  • Supporting the development of other authentic leaders in your organization.
