Authentic Leadership in Challenging Times
With Nick Craig and Bill George

May 10-12, 2010
Hyatt Harborside Hotel; Boston, MA

True Leaders are developed in challenging times.

When business is tough, your leadership skills are put to the test.  Stakes are high.  Outcomes are unpredictable.  One step in the wrong direction can lead to dire financial consequences.  Staying on course is much easier when things are going well.  Challenging times offer the greatest opportunities for you to dig deep within yourself for the courage, capacity, and integrity to lead with vision, purpose, and impact.

In this exclusive intensive workshop, you will join best-selling author Bill George and Nick Craig to explore and tap your true ability and authentic self as a leader.  You will map your “True North” – your unique motivations, purpose and principles drawn from your life-defining experiences – that will enable you to remain grounded, enlist support and make the hard choices that tough times demand.  Leaders aligned with their True North are equipped to guide their organizations through severe situations because they know who they are.

The Learning Experience
Dialogue and small group work combined with specially designed hands-on, practical exercises enable participants to apply and practice the ideas, tools, and frameworks presented in the course.  Authentic Leadership in Challenging Times focuses on four content areas.

Examine the 7 Lessons for Leading in Crisis
In this opening session with Bill George, you will explore the issues you are facing in your organization and the pragmatic approaches that will enable you to address them.  You will examine a wide range of crises that leaders have faced, how they have dealt with them, and the lessons they offer you in dealing with your current challenges and future ones as they arise.

This session will be held the afternoon of Day 1 and will be followed by an evening networking session.
The following sessions – with Nick Craig – will be held Day 2 and the morning of Day 3.

Identify your Crucible
Crises bring you face to face with who you really are and what really matters.  What makes a life-defining moment so effective is not the drama it produces, but the shift that takes place in how you decide and take action.  In this session, you will share and examine your crucible story and translate the lessons learned into your guiding beliefs, values, and principles.

Operate in your “Sweet Spot”
Brilliance comes only from exploiting your strengths.  Through a series of exercises, you will mine your life experiences for your unique leadership capabilities and core motivations.  Together, they form your sweet spot.  You are more likely to be successful and fulfilled as a leader when you align your greatest talents with your most powerful motivators.

Lead with Purpose
A true purpose drives you as a leader, gives you confidence in tough times and, most important, enables you to inspire and empower those around you.  In exercises and small group work, you will have the opportunity to step away from your prescribed roles and expectations to examine and discern what you are most passionate about that will help you stay the course in a crisis and enlist the support of others.

Application
As part of each session, you will explore the issues you are facing in your organization and the pragmatic approaches that will enable you to address them.

Who Should Participate
Authentic Leadership in Challenging Times is designed for senior executives in a mix of leadership roles from a range of product and service organizations.  A diverse set of backgrounds enables you to learn from your peers’ experiences and lessons to develop a set of tools best suited to leverage your leadership capabilities.

“This was one of the most profound experiences of my life. The experience was analogous with peeling away the layers of an onion. This forced deep introspection – something that I hadn’t done for a very long time – which created an unbelievable level of renewed self awareness. . . I left a far more complete and better human being than when I arrived.” – Dolf Van Der Brink, CEO, Heineken USA
