360 with a Difference
- Gain insight into your unique leadership strengths. Unlike other 360s, this instrument does not evaluate performance against previously defined corporate competencies. Rather, this tool helps you identify your distinct capabilities, motivations and values, and how you can move from good management to great leadership by operating from your authentic core.
- Identify qualities needed to lead in challenging times. Distinctive to the Authentic Leadership True North 360, this instrument defines attributes proven to be critical to leading organizations through times of crisis as well as ongoing challenge: self-awareness, compelling purpose, clear values, empowering style, meaningful relationships and the self-discipline to get results.
- Learn when others think you operate at your best. Your colleagues will have the opportunity to share examples of when they’ve seen you operate at your best – times when your core values and capabilities are aligned and the results are evident in your leadership.
This 360 is especially powerful when used in conjunction with the book, Finding Your True North, with an Authentic Leadership True North program, or with one-on-one coaching. Developed by Harvard Professor of Management Practices Bill George and ALI President Nick Craig, the instrument is based on leadership research by Bill George and was first introduced at Harvard Business School.
For individual or team use, the Authentic Leadership True North 360 provides an excellent foundation for personal insight and growth as well as effective leadership team development.
How It Works
Once you identify the colleagues who will participate in your 360, ALI will send the online assessment form directly to them. You will receive your personal 360 Report when all assessments are submitted. (See our 5 Tips for Getting More Meaningful 360 Results.)
360 Feedback that Reflects your Authentic Leadership
The questions that you and your colleagues will answer in this 360 (about 50 items in all) align with 9 key categories that support being an Authentic Leader. Instead of assessing specific skills, questions reveal areas such as:
- Are you and others clear on your purpose as a leader?
- Are your actions congruent with your values?
- Are you helping others access their authentic leadership?
- Do you and the organization you lead deliver?
- Do people see you as an authentic leader?
In open-ended questions your boss, direct reports and others are also invited to share examples of when they have seen you operate from your sweet spot – when your motivations and capabilities have been well aligned, producing genuine and effective leadership.

Each section of your personal feedback report is designed to present your results from a different perspective, in a way that helps you explore different aspects of your own True North. The Self-Help Guide offers additional direction and suggestions for how to interpret and use the results.
